New Adventures in Babysitting

My little boy is safe on the rocks, until
I see his head disappear among them
he stands and shakes it off. He wants to take a slug
home and I'm furious have you ever heard of an ecosystem?

I just put down the phone. I'm mean now. And I have guilty dreams.

There are no bad reasons, just a big vein on the side of my
neck to say: I am keeping watch over myself. I am my own private eye.
And fuck off.

I decide what to give away, since I have to surrender a few things
every now and then. If one of them is a smile
don't take advantage of me. Just let it wash over you like a sun lit leaf
in winter. I build my own shelter,
my own temptation and keep watch all night.
