Country Manners x <3 Texas

It was flooding at the airport in Texas
A group of German students stood in
their healthy bodies, getting their
sweatpants and sneakers rained on

Walk lifting your heavy wet sleeves,
said the poet
through the airport

coming from Cancun, a teen in a ten-
gallon hat runs his fingers over his
abs

I wore a key tied around the strings of
my hoodie
Time is a bump and slap against my chest
while I walk

The more efficient girls throw down their
camelbacks and my library book wrapper
ripples across the bar
settling on the entertainment section of the
newspaper

what a bad feeling for my feet to leave the
ground whatever cracks in the leather
scratch my arms I would rather feel this age
than nothing

all I would probably do here is my dishes
laziness is a country vice disguised

the vibe changes. I'm crinkling up and down
halls asking should I stay or go
do I make this my new home?

the clock delayed
a ticking plane
a ponytail waves
her basket has a lock
is this where I stop?

nauseous airplane neck contortion
wild daytime dream distortion
from inside my head I learn
I'm a seed that gets watered but
also has to water itself
